Saw this post and thought how awesome it would be to have a "book talk" at our Regional Conference.  What do you think?

Black Women and the Feminist Movement

I hunted and hunted for the creator of this image to no avail.
Please post in the comment section below if you come across the name of the person who created this image.

Joycelyn Wilson wrote in The Root (2013) that traditional feminism failed African-American women.
She goes on to say that we should address issues of feminism on our own terms and in our own way. Controversy swirled around her comments and black women took sides.

This week Gloria Steinem was interviewed at the Black Enterprise's Women of Power Summit, and expressed her opinion about the importance of black women in the feminist movement.
"I know we all have different experiences, but I learned feminism disproportionately from black women."

Make it Happen

Today is International Women's Day and all over the world women are celebrating the achievement of women.  Those who helped secure the vote for women in the United States and those that are working to secure the vote for women in those countries that have that step to take.  In some countries women are looking at gender equity and in others they are fighting for the right for girls to attend school. There is so much work to be done. The struggle continues around the globe.
